Chain Link Fencing in Meridian, Idaho

Meridian Quality Fence hangs chain link fence in Meridian on dog yards, side lots, and pads that do not need a privacy wall. Galvanized mill finish is the workhorse. Black coat is the look upgrade. This is not the HOA front.

Call (208) 925-2582 with height, color, and whether a dog will test the bottom. We tension fabric to terminals, not to a leaning T-post.

New cedar privacy fence in a backyard

Galvanized residential mesh

Eleven-gauge fabric on 4-foot and 6-foot residential posts. Knuckled top for yards, barbed top only when the owner asks and the city allows it. Terminal posts at corners and gates. Line posts in between. This is the cheap, honest enclosure.

Black vinyl-coated dog runs

Black coat hides rust stains and reads as a line, not a shine. Same mesh job underneath. We still set terminals in concrete. A taut bottom wire matters more than the color when a dog digs. Six-foot is the usual ask.

Bottom tension and kickboards

A tension wire keeps fabric from lifting. A pressure-treated kickboard at the dirt line stops the first row of digging. Neither one turns chain link into a privacy fence. Both stop the "the dog is in the front yard" call.

Utility and equipment pads

Short runs around HVAC slabs, trailers, and trash. Often 4-foot. Gates have to fit the equipment that actually rolls in. We do not copy a backyard spec onto a 20-foot pad and hope the forklift clears.

  1. Pick height, gauge, and mill versus coated.
  2. Locate terminals at corners, ends, and gate posts.
  3. Set posts, then rails or tension bands to the spec.
  4. Stretch fabric with a come-along. Tie it. Cut it clean at the terminal.
  5. Hang the gate so it does not sag after the first summer.

Tension is the whole method. Loose fabric is a hammock. Over-stretch tears diamonds at the terminal. We stretch until the mesh is even, then we tie. A truss rod on a wide gate opening keeps the terminal from pulling in.

Materials and Methods

Fabric in 11-gauge or 9-gauge. 2-inch mesh is the residential default. Terminal posts often 2 3/8, line posts 1 5/8 or 2, top rail 1 3/8. Tension bars, tension bands, truss rods, and hog rings. Galvanized fittings on mill fabric. Coated fittings on black fabric so you do not see a silver halo. Concrete at terminals and gates. A come-along stretch, not a two-person yank that leaves a belly. Bottom tension wire. Optional privacy slats in vinyl. We do not use T-posts on a residential yard unless you are buying ranch fabric on purpose. ASTM chain-link specs cover coating weight and mesh. We buy fabric that meets that, then we stretch it until it rings.

Fabric meets ASTM F668 when it is polymer coated, or ASTM A392 when it is galvanized steel. Install follows ASTM F567. Terminal posts set in concrete. 9 gauge or 11 gauge mesh as quoted. Top rail and tension wire. Framework per ASTM F1083 when the spec names pipe. Hot-dip galvanized fittings. We do not stretch fabric on posts that still lean. Mesh size and gauge are the bid, not a color only.

A belly in the fabric is not a style. It is a stretch that stopped too soon or a terminal that moved. We brace corners. We tie at the interval the fabric wants, not every third diamond because someone was tired. Top rail keeps the line honest on a residential yard. Tension wire only on top is a farm shortcut and it looks like one. Gates get a drop rod when they are wide enough to sag. We set the swing so a mower fits, or we say it will not. If you want slats, we can add them at hang or later. Later is messier. Say it now if you already know.

Angi puts chain-link around 8 to 40 per linear foot, with many 4-foot jobs much cheaper than 8-foot. HomeAdvisor's chain-link average sits near 2,419, with a published band around 1,297 to 3,587 for typical projects. Fixr lists installed chain link near 12.25 to 40 per linear foot. Thumbtack still treats mill chain link as the low end of the material list. Gauge, height, coating, and gates move the number. We quote the run. We do not post a menu.

Chain link fencing in Meridian is the utility hire: dog runs, side yards, school and park edges, and rural lots west and south of the HOA belt. Most Cadence and Reflection Ridge packets will not pass a bright galvanized face on the street. Black vinyl-coated fabric reads quieter and sometimes clears a design review when the sheet allows metal mesh. Always send the packet. Guessing gets a fail sticker on the garage.

Wind load on chain link is lower than on a six-foot solid vinyl or cedar wall because air passes the fabric. Posts still need real depth for freeze-thaw. A leaning terminal after January is almost always a shallow set or a missing concrete collar at a corner. We brace corners and gates. We do not stretch fabric on posts that already wave.

Compared with vinyl privacy, chain link will not hide the trampoline. Compared with cedar, it will not weather to a warm face. Compared with ornamental iron, it is faster and cheaper per foot on a long run, and it is the better kennel when a husky is the real client. Owners who want a black ornamental street face and a chain link dog yard should say two specs. One material stretched across both jobs fails one of them.

Slope on fill lots south of I-84 needs racked fabric or stepped terminals. A triangular gap at the downhill end is how a dog leaves. Irrigation laterals and utility locates come before the auger. Older Meridian plats hide laterals where a weekend dig finds them the hard way. Tension wire, correct gauge, and tight ties keep the fabric from bagging after the first big dog hit.

Slats can add privacy later if the association allows them. They also add wind load. Tell us if slats are in the plan so post spacing and gauge match. Gates get the hardware that belongs on chain link, not a wood latch bolted through a thin frame.

Questions

Is black chain link much more than galvanized?

Vinyl-coated black mesh costs more than mill galvanized. It hides the steel and reads cleaner on a backyard. It is still see-through. Privacy slats are a separate add. Say color when you call so we do not bid mill by default.

Will chain link hold a large dog?

Gauge, post size, and a tight bottom matter more than the color. Eleven-gauge residential is common. Nine-gauge is heavier. A bottom tension wire or a kickboard stops digging. Height is usually four or six feet. Name the town and the job when you call.

Can I add slats later for privacy?

Yes. Slats weave into the mesh. They cut wind less than a solid wood wall and they still show at an angle. Fixr notes slat boxes as an add. If you want a real screen, wood or vinyl is the better search.

Do you set chain link on a slope?

Fabric can follow a grade if we rack it. Steep cuts need extra terminals. We do not leave a triangular hole at the downhill end for a dog to walk through. Photos of the slope help before we bid. Name the town and the job when you call.

Will a Meridian HOA pass galvanized chain link on the street?

Often no on production plats that want an ornamental or vinyl look at the curb. Black coated fabric has a better chance when the sheet allows mesh. Rural and utility sides are a different conversation. Send the packet page before we order fabric color.

Is chain link better than vinyl in valley wind?

Open fabric lets air through, so wind load is lower than a solid vinyl privacy wall. Posts still need depth for freeze-thaw and braced corners. If you need privacy and wind control, that is a solid fence conversation, not a mesh one.
